Black Rain New York cop Michael Douglas experiences culture clash with a vengeance when he's sent on a trip to Osaka with partner Andy Garcia. Directed by Ridley Scott, which means that whatever else you object to you'll love the way it looks. Tue 9.30pmBBC1

84 Charing Cross Road American writer Anne Bancroft strikes up a 20-year correspondence with English bookseller Anthony Hopkins. Surprisingly engaging, despite its tendency to tip into wasn't-everything-lovely-in-the-old-days nostalgia. Thur 2.15pm BBC1
