Pierre Boulez (RFH, 071-928 8800, tonight). The master brings together the Philharmonia and Ensemble InterContemporain for music by Messiaen and Carter. With Maria Ewing in Messiaen's classic Poemes pour Mi.

Barber of Seville (ROH, 071-240 1066, from tomorrow). Revival, led by Jennifer Larmore and Thomas Hampson.

Wolfgang Holzmair (Wigmore Hall, 071-935 2141, tomorrow). Superlative Austrian baritone in Mendelssohn and Schubert, with period accompaniment by Melvyn Tan.

Haydn's Creation (RFH, Tues & Thurs). Roger Norrington substitutes for Klaus Tennstedt with the LPO.

Contemporary Music Network Tour (071-973 6503, from Wed). Peter Maxwell Davies takes his own new Strathclyde Concerto (No 7, Double Bass) and the SCO to Lancaster (Wed), Newcastle (Thurs), Edinburgh (Sat).

Tristan und Isolde (Cardiff New Theatre, 0222 394844, from Sat). The only new Wagner production to be seen in Britain this year and a conspicuous event, starring Anne Evans, Jeffrey Lawton, Della Jones, and conducted by Charles Mackerras.
