More Hollywood-friendly stars than ever are swapping screen for stage in 2013.

In the West End, Daniel Radcliffe will star in The Cripple of Inishmaan, and Jude Law steps up for Henry V, both with the Michael Grandage Company. Kim Cattrall will appear in Sweet Bird Of Youth and Rupert Everett reprises his role in The Judas Kiss next week.

In America, too film stars are choosing to trade cocktails at Chateau Marmont for draughty dressing rooms and a plastic cup of table wine. On Broadway, Scarlett Johansson has just begun previews of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof while Katie Holmes is nearing the end of an ill-fated run in Dead Accounts.

Back in London, next month James McAvoy will star in Macbeth at Trafalgar Studios. "James is not afraid to explore murky, dangerous depths," says director Jamie Lloyd. "It's exciting to cast a younger, visceral Macbeth – a believable warrior – and a Scottish actor to boot. This is the role he was born to play."
