The last time the RSC put on this play, it was all muscular thighs and bursting thongs. Michael Boyd's new staging reverts to the more usual practice of referring to World War I, but adds a twist by presenting the Trojans as an extended Irish family. By contrast, the Greeks, in suits, look like pistol-toting bank managers re-enacting the Fall of Troy. There are some strong performances - Paul Hamilton as Ajax, Sara Stewart as Helen of Troy - but it's not the greatest compliment to say that this production has its moments.
