Jim Henson was one of the creators of Sesame Street.

Jim Henson (1936-1990): Creator

Henson was invited to work on Sesame Street in 1969 and became one of the key drivers in the creation and production of Sesame Street and pivotal to its success. His skills as a puppeteer were realised in the characters of Ernie and Kermit the Frog who are both household names in the Muppet world.

'When I was young, my ambition was to be one of the people who made a difference in this world. My hope is to leave the world a bit better for my having been here.'

I was raised on the street! (Sesame Street)

I just want to thank Jim Henson and any other people that have helped create the world's greatest childrens show. Sesame street was always my favorite show growing up. I loved the way "Sesame Street" doesn't try to hide what the world really looks like. For example, finding letters in New York in graffiti. This may be a small thing, but it's something that helps children recognize letters anywhere. I am 20 years old and I had no idea that Sesame Street had been around 20 years before me. Congratulations Sesame Street!
From your #1 fan,

40 years ago, when I heard of Sesame Street coming on the air, and that Kermit would be there on that first show, I had to see. So I did not go to class and watched it on TV. My parents did not know. Okay, I was in college, 18 years old at the time, and it was nice to see the start of this show, put I knew it was not for me to see Kermit every day he would be with the new characters. But I can say I remember being there for that first show.

i am most grateful to GOD on behalf of all the crew members at Sesame Street who invested their time and energy to bring the best out children, most especially me.Sesame Street played an important role in my life as child while growing up in the 80's, early 90's with various educational programmes such dat it helped to bring out a better part of me that till date it still reflects in the way and manner I relate and do things. I am from Nigeria precisely Western Africa we really did not have much to watch on Tv at time but the the moment Sesame Street bcame on air, I particularly got glued to the Tv set until every moment is savored greatly. my heart goes out the following people, GORDON, SUSAN, BOB, OLIVIA, LEWIS, DAVID, MARIA, MR HOOPER and the rest that I cant remember their names for now. I sincerely would love to be part of what you guys are doing, pls do send me article souvenirs or magazine that would make register with you or membership form i do appreciate it a lot cos right now i dont have anythin to show my kids, telling them stories of how Bert and Ernie became my favorite muppets. I remember staying up every afternoon while my parents took a nap.. just so I could watch Sesame Street faithfully and a LOT of what I learned that molded me into a smart and intelligent kid and then adult is quite thanks to the characters on the show and of course the brain child - Jim Henson.

I remember how SS encouraged little kids to use the power of imagination to be creative and think about just anything that could be possible! Oscar was my favourite character and so was Elmo!

THANKS SESAME STREET!! LOVE YOU ALL
Sasame Street was OK.

didn't know this was a forum for religious debate. Your views on religion are of no interest to me, and I resent having to be exposed to them here. Please take your fundamentalism somewhere else. Thanks.
Originators of Sesame Street?

Many years ago [1968] I met a couple in Pismo Beach California that were in a 1957 black ragtop buick convertible, [canvas top that was in shreads] but had a very expensive looking camera and stand mounted in the back floor-board taking photos of different scenes along the coast. What I was told at the time was the pictures were going to be incorporated into a future kids TV program called "Sesame Street". They asked if they could camp out at my then gas station that over-looked the Pacific Ocean in Pismo and stayed for most of a week. A man and a Woman, [his assistant] last names as being Shapiro. A name I never forgot. Through the years I have often wondered if these were the originators of the legendary Sesame Street as we all know it. I got to know these people very well.
Vale Jim Henson! and Thank You!

My children loved Sesame Street and The Muppets, and we all spent time together watching their antics. Their appeal is ongoing and will be a great influence for all children of the future. What a great tool to influence for the good of all! Thank you to all those who have been involved with the production, and Congratulations on achieving a great FORTY YEARS of fantastic work!

No Joe Raposo?

How can you leave out Joe Raposo who wrote and performed so many of those classic Sesame tunes, including the theme song, as well as voicing a number of uncredited characters? He was surely as instrumental to the brilliance of the show, especially in the early years, as any of those featured above.

Or do a youtube search of the guy's name. There are pages and pages of clips featuring songs he wrote for the program. What a wonderful talent.

I grew up in Saudi Arabia on an excellent creation of sesame street that was produced by an organization owned by the Gulf Countries. It was the greatest show, and probably never followed by anything like it. Thanks for the originators and those who adapted it into Arabic!

I remember my girlfriends and I screaming out the lyrics to 'I'm a Baby', over a decade ago. No problem with that except we were 16 year old High school seniors!

I watched the show growing up like so many other 'kids' out there. I now have two little girls and I've desperately been looking for SS DVDs for them. I finally got one (on Elmo) and my babies were literally transfixed!

I live in Lagos Nigeria. Please how can I get SS DVDs. I don't mind watching too!!!!!
