Keifer Sutherland hits the web with 'The Confession'
Thursday 31 March 2011
Keifer Sutherland, the star of the hit television show
24, which ended last year after eight successful seasons, has joined a web series,
The Confession, which debuted March 29 on Hulu.com, the US-only website showing television programs and on-demand streaming video.
The Confession was created by Sutherland and costar John Hurt (Mr. Ollivander from Harry Potter). The 10-part thriller consists of a series of five-to-10-minute episodes. The story follows a hit man and a priest, exploring good, evil and redemption through their complex relationship and dramatic flashbacks.
In what signals the first foray by a major star into narrative webisodes with high production values, it could be the start of a new form. The first three "chapters" have already been posted, with chapters 4 and 5 premiering on Hulu April 4.
The show was shot in just over a week in New York while Sutherland was rehearsing for his Broadway role in That Championship Season, which also stars Chris Noth ( Sex and the City) and Jason Patric ( The Losers), the son of Jason Miller, who wrote the play.
Sutherland's next film is Melancholia, a sci-fi thriller about a planet on a collision course with Earth. His costars are Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kirsten Dunst and Charlotte Rampling. Directed by Lars von Trier ( Antichrist), it released in Scandinavia on May 26 followed by the UK in July.
A film version of 24 is in development as a feature film due in 2012, with Sutherland returning to his role as government agent Jack Bauer.
