13 Reasons Why season 2 trailer

13 Reasons Why has proven one of the most controversial shows on television right now, the first season featuring a storyline based on suicide, while the second dealt with gun violence in schools.

While Netflix has yet to confirm whether the show has been renewed for a third season, one actor has confirmed they will not be returning.

Warning: spoilers for season two of 13 Reasons Why ahead.

Katherine Langford, who plays Hannah Baker, has confirmed that season two marks the end of her time on the show.

“For me, we told Hannah’s story so fully in season one,” she told EW. “And in a way, doing that scene in episode 13, I’ve so often referred to it as it was the hardest scene because it’s the scene where I had to let her go.”

Baker was referring to a scene from the episode “Bye”, which, according to Deadline, sees Hannah’s spirit enter a church while Clay (Jenson, played by Dylan Minnette) watches. She then passes into the afterlife.

She continued: “I guess if I could put Hannah’s life into season one and then say it was kind of like being in purgatory for season two, and then being able to officially say goodbye to her.

“It definitely felt like time. For me, letting Hannah go was in season one; season two was for Clay to let her go. It was being able to assist Clay on that journey as Hannah and let Clay have his moment to let Hannah go.”

Meanwhile, an activist group has been urging the streaming service to cancel the show following the controversial season two story arch concerning the character Tyler (Devin Druid).
