Jack Bauer hit the UK today as filming commenced on new series 24: Live Another Day, and every measure was taken to make sure viewers knew exactly which country the series is set in.

Just eight seconds of footage from the day's filming has made it onto YouTube, but it was enough to show a red telephone box, red pillar box and a shop named 'EMPIRE' all in shot.

If this most British of imagery were not enough, a fiery, upturned black cab with a Union Flag emblazoned on the side was thrown in for good measure (presumably having exploded after Jack glanced with malice in its direction).

The supremely entertaining thriller series has never been one for subtlety, having previous seen Jack interrogate a suspect by shooting his wife in the knee.

New details about the comeback series emerged earlier this week, with 24 cast members Mary Lynn Rajskub, Kim Raver and William Devane all being confirmed for a return.

24: Live Another Day will consist of just 12 episodes this time around and begin in the US on May 5 with a Sky1 air date in the UK to be set for later in the month.

24 is to return to Sky 1 in May (FOX)

Kiefer Sutherland, who plays CTA agent Jack Bauer, said of the show: "The response to 24 is unlike anything I have ever experienced as an actor before. There’s a great impetus for all of us to create something new with the show.

"To have the chance to reunite with the character Jack Bauer is like finding a lost friend."
