NTAs 2019: Ant and Dec win again while Piers Morgan misses out

Ant and Dec have described their eighteenth NTAs best presenters win as a “genuine shock”.

The duo appeared emotional as they appeared on a live feed from the Britain’s Got Talent auditions, with Ant McPartlin handing most of the credit to his professional partner and friend, Declan Donnelly.

“I really don’t feel like I can accept this award this year – it has to go to this guy,” he said, pointing at Dec, “for his hard work, dedication, wit and funniness and for being the best mate out there. I love you, man.”

Dec added: “Thank you to everybody for their kind and thoughtful messages, they’ve kept us going over the last year – this year probably more than ever.”

Ant was convicted of drink driving in April 2018 and cancelled a number of TV commitments as a result, including I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here and the Britain’s Got Talent live shows.

He recently revealed that he was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), which “made sense” as it has “lots of links to alcohol dependency”.

“In my job, having what they call ‘popcorn thinking’ is good because it means you can jump from one thing to another. Professionally, it’s brilliant. Personally, I’m all over the place,” he said.
