Olivia Colman, David Tennant and Benedict Cumberbatch are among those to have made the 19th National Television Awards shortlist.

Popular TV duo Ant and Dec will compete against themselves for the Entertainment Programme prize after both I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! and Saturday Night Takeaway were nominated alongside Celebrity Juice and The Graham Norton Show.

The Geordie stars are also up for the Best Entertainment Presenter prize at the awards bash on 22 January, defending the title they have picked up for 12 consecutive years.

They face competition from Dermot O'Leary, the host of the awards show staged at London's O2 Arena and broadcast by ITV.

A new category of TV Detective has been added this year after a deluge of hit crime dramas. Among those nominated are Idris Elba for Luther, Colman and Tennant for Broadchurch, Bradley Walsh for Law and Order and Cumberbatch for Sherlock.

Cumberbatch has been included in the list despite no new editions of the show being screened during the qualifying period but ceremony bosses say they included it in the list because repeats had proved popular with viewers.

Competing for the top drama trophy are Doctor Who - on a high from its 50th anniversary celebrations and well-watched Christmas edition - alongside Downton Abbey, Call The Midwife and Broadchurch.

A varied collection of shows competes for Best Factual Entertainment with a nod for The Great British Bake Off, while Strictly Come Dancing goes up against The X Factor once more for best talent show.

EastEnders and Hollyoaks are among the soap operas nominated for the Serial Drama prize.
