Blue Planet 2: Radiohead and Hans Zimmer team up for soundtrack

Re-recording the track 'Bloom' off 2011's The King of Limbs

Following the success of Planet Earth II, the BBC is working on a sequel to another brilliant David Attenborough series, Blue Planet.

Hans Zimmer will return to score the series, the esteemed composer working with Glastonbury headliners Radiohead to work on the soundtrack.

Together, they have reworked the track ‘Bloom’ from Radiohead’s 2011 album The King of Limbs, re-recording the composition with an orchestra and featuring new vocals.

Called ‘(Ocean) Bloom’, the track will soundtrack an upcoming five-minute prequel film, set for release on the 17 September.

"Bloom was inspired by the original Blue Planet series so it's great to be able to come full circle with the song and reimagine it for this incredible landmark's sequel," singer Thom Yorke said in a press release.

"Hans is a prodigious composer who effortlessly straddles several musical genres so it was liberating for us all to work with such a talent and see how he wove the sound of the series and Bloom together.”

The BBC described said the prequel contains "some of the most awe-inspiring shots and highlights from the new series” and will feature some exclusive scenes not included in upcoming episodes.

According to the broadcaster, the series will contain footage of never-before filmed species, including a species of crab with hairy chests, nicknamed the "Hoff crab" after David Hasselhoff.

Blue Planet II — narrated by Attenborough — does not have a premiere date.
