Following news that Broadchurch will return for a third series despite a generally disappointing reaction to the second run, fans of the show have been sharing their predictions for the next storyline.

ITV announced that another series had been commissioned as the credits rolled for last night’s closing episode, which saw Joe Miller banished to Sheffield (the new ‘being sent to Coventry’, one viewer noted) after narrowly escaping a guilty verdict for the murder of schoolboy Danny Latimer.

Some Twitter users reckon there’s another murderer in the midst, with Joe innocent after all…

“We’ve been overwhelmed that nine million people every week have continued to join us on the twists and turns of Broadchurch,” creator and writer Chris Chibnall said.

“This third chapter has been a glint in my eye for a long time and I’m thrilled to be writing these characters once again.”
