Tom and Jerry are to return to TV for the first time in over a decade for a Children in Need special next month.

The warring cartoon characters will appear in an exclusive episode for the BBC1 fundraising night, which will be broadcast live from EastEnders’ Albert Square.

Children in Need 2014 will feature some famous faces from the soap’s history, who will return to Walford in a sketch that will see one character visited by some infamous ghosts from their past.

The cast of EastEnders will also take part in a musical performance from Albert Square.

Gareth Malone and his celebrity choir will headline the night, starring Jo Brand, Mel Giedroyc and Craig Revel-Horwood, among others.

The Strictly judge will also appear as part of the Strictly Come Dancing special, which will see the return of Sir Bruce Forsyth hosting alongside Tess Daly.

The performance will feature four talented young ballroom champions go head-to-head with professional dancers in a bid to win the Pudsey trophy.

There will also be performances from West End musicals Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Made in Dagenham and Once.

The return of Tom and Jerry is the latest in a number of cartoon remakes to return to TV, including SuperTed and Thunderbirds.

Children in Need will air on BBC1 on Friday 14 November.
