Cold Feet is set to return to ITV 13 years after its finale, according to reports.

ITV bosses are said to be in negotiations to hire the core cast, including James Nesbitt, John Thompson and Hermoine Morris.

It is hoped the comedy will fill the slot left by Downton Abbey when the flagship ITV drama ends later this year.

Cold Feet, which followed the intertwining lives of three couples at different stages in their relationships, ran for six years on ITV from 1997-2003.

A source told The Mirror: “It is all looking very positive for a Cold Feet comeback. But at this point it is still in the planning stage and there is a long way to go.”

Filming would not start before 2016, according to the insider, meaning the drama would return in autumn 2016 at the earliest.

The original cast included Helen Baxendale (aka Emily from Friends), Robert Bathurst, Hermoine Norris, John Thomson, Fay Ripley and James Nesbitt.

A number of the actors have fronted high profile dramas since the series ended. Nesbitt recently starred as a grieving father in the acclaimed BBC drama series The Missing, while Fay Ripley appeared in The Crimson Field.

An ITV spokesperson dismissed the reports, saying: "This is speculation. There is always so much interest in a Cold Feet reunion."
