Age: 50

Occupation: Coronation Street actor who plays cabbie driver Lloyd Mullaney in the soap

Relationship status: Married

Interesting fact: Charles first appeared on TV as a John Cooper Clarke-style performance poet

The actor has had a varied career, rising to fame after playing Dave Lister in Red Dwarf and later presenting Robot Wars and Takeshi’s Castle before starring in Coronation Street.

He hosts The Craig Charles Funk and Soul Show on BBC Radio 6 Music and has toured the UK extensively as a stand-up comedian.

At the beginning of his career, he performed poetry at Liverpool’s Everyman Theatre after winning a poetry competition run by The Guardian newspaper when he was 12-years-old.

Despite appearing in one of the country’s biggest soaps, Charles does not watch much TV and says he is most afraid of not knowing who anybody is in the jungle.

“I don’t watch things like Made In Chelsea and my only worry is if I don’t know who the people are! I don’t want to be rude and say ‘hi I am Craig. Who are you?!’” he says.

He says that aside from his wife and daughters he will miss funk and soul music the most. “I have spent my life with Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder,” he says.
