Netflix has announced that its Marvel original series Daredevil will be returning for a second season next year.

The streaming service began airing the superhero series earlier this month to warm reviews from both critics and fans.

Doug Petrie, known for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and American Horror Story, will team up with Sons of Anarchy’s Marco Ramirez to run season two, after they worked closely with executive producers Steven S DeKnight and Drew Goddard during the making of the first.

Previous commitments prevent DeKnight from continuing with Daredevil but he “could not be happier that Petrie and Ramirez are carrying the torch”.

“They were invaluable collaborators during our first season and I for one can’t wait to see what they do with the show moving forward,” he said in a statement.

Daredevil follows the adventures of a lawyer who moonlights as a superhero, played by British actor Charlie Cox. Blinded as a young boy but imbued with an extraordinary sense, Matt Murdock battles injustice by night in “modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City”.

Further new Marvel series are set to premiere exclusively on Netflix, with A.K.A Jessica Jones next up later this year. Luke Cage will follow in 2016, before Iron Fist and mini-series The Defenders, which will see the characters join forces as a team of heroes.
