David Brent: The Album? Ricky Gervais inundated with offers from record labels
Ricky Gervais has received a number of “ridiculous offers from major record deals” to produce a David Brent album.
Producers are keen to create a record of Brent’s back catalogue, which include ‘Free Love Freeway’, ‘Love On The Road’, ‘Spaceman Came Down’ and ‘Ain’t No Trouble’, all made famous on The Office and Gervais’ new You Tube series ‘Learn Guitar with David Brent.’
Gervais tweeted: “I can’t believe I’m now getting ridiculous offers from major record deals all over the world for a David Brent album. Where were these people when I was trying to be a real pop star? And starving?”
The comedian has received interest following the success of his David Brent YouTube series, which has had over 3 million views.
Following news of a potential record deal, The Office star hinted Brent would start touring the UK in intimate venues.
Gervais asked his Twitter followers: “What’s the best little theatre in your town for David Brent to do an unplugged set of his songs followed by a Q & A?”
He received a huge response from his followers, and said: “Twitter just sorted out David Brent’s first world tour. Cheers!”
But the former district manager of Wernham Hogg may be faced with a moral dilemma if he has to share a stage with Gervais.
“Brent just found out that if he supported that Ricky Gervais on tour he could play arenas & stadia. But he’s a man of the people. #torn,” Gervais tweeted.
