Doctor Who series 8: Full episode titles, guest stars, writers and directors revealed

The information for all 12 new instalments has been released to fans

Fans awaiting the return of Doctor Who this coming Saturday will be excited to learn the titles for all 12 new episodes.

The BBC released the official list earlier, along with each instalment's writer and director.

First and second episodes, "Deep Breath" and "Into the Dalek" had already been confirmed, but fresh information reveals that Sherlock co-creator Mark Gatiss has penned the third, "Robots of Sherwood".

Other titles include "Listen", "Time Heist", "The Caretaker" and "Kill the Moon". Two shows have come from Jamie Mahieson – "Mummy on the Orient Express" and "Flatline" – while Frank Cottrell Boyce has penned "In the Forest of the Night" and Steven Moffat is behind the two-parter finale, "Dark Water" and "Death in Heaven".

As for directors, Ben Wheatley, Paul Murphy, Paul Wilmshurst and Rachel Talalay have helmed two episodes each, with Sheree Folkson directing one and Douglas Mackinnon, three.

The eighth series of Doctor Who will see Peter Capaldi properly introduced as the twelfth Time Lord, after his debut appearance in the 2013 Christmas special. Guest stars set to join the show include Frank Skinner, Keeley Hawes and singer Foxes.

7) "Kill the Moon" - written by Peter Harness, directed by Paul Wilmshurst, guest stars Hermione Norris, Tony Osoba and Ellis George

8) "Mummy on the Orient Express" - written by Jamie Mathieson, directed by Paul Wilmshurst, guest stars Frank Skinner, Foxes and David Bamber

9) "Flatline" - written by Jamie Mathieson, directed by Douglas MacKinnon, guest stars Christopher Fairbank and Joivan Wade

10) "In the Forest of the Night" - written by Frank Cottrell Boyce, directed by Sheree Folkson, guest stars Abigail Eames, Jaydon Harris-Wallace, Ashley Foster and Harley Bird

11 & 12) "Dark Water" and "Death in Heaven" - written by Steven Moffat, directed by Rachel Talalay, guest stars Michelle Gomez, Chris Addison, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Jemma Redgrave and Ingrid Oliver

The new run will also see the introduction of a recurring character called Danny Pink, played by Samuel Anderson, a teacher at Coal Hill School where the Doctor's sidekick Clara also works.

The first new episode airs on 23 August at 7.50pm on BBC One.
