Following in the footsteps of Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures, another Doctor Who spin-off is set to air later this year and it finally has a cast.

Coronation Street’s Katherine Kelly will play a teacher in Class, which follows the adventures of four sixth formers at Coal Hill School. Joining her are newcomers Greg Austin, Sophie Hopkins Fady Elsayed and Vivian Oparah.

Kelly recently played a secretary alongside Tom Hiddleston in The Night Manager and had roles in Happy Valley and Mr. Selfridge.

Coal Hill School appeared in the very first episode of Doctor Who and has since appeared numerous times throughout the series’ history.

 The cast of Class

"There's nothing more exciting than meeting stars that nobody's heard of yet,” Steven Moffat said of Class. “We had the read-through of the first few episodes last week, and there was a whole row of them.

"Coal Hill School has been part of Doctor Who since the very first shoot in 1963, but this new show is anything but history. Class is dark and sexy and right now. I've always wondered if there could be a British Buffy - it's taken the brilliant Patrick Ness [writer] to figure out how to make it happen.”

The eight-part series will debut on the online-only channel BBC Three later this year. Class is aimed at a younger audience, while each episode will be 45-minutes long.

Meanwhile, David Tennant’s Doctor has been facing off against internet trolls in a new audiodrama.
