After last Sunday's relatively uneventful episode of Downton Abbey, a number of storylines look set for some more dramatic twists and turns next week.

Art historian Simon Bricker and schoolteacher Sarah Bunting seem to have left the show after the events of last night's episode, which saw Robert slap Bricker for flirting with Cora and Tom decide that it was time to "call things a day" with his potential lover after one too many controversial upstairs dinners.

There will, at last, be some communication between Bates and Anna about valet Green's mysterious death, and we might even find out who killed him. The police are heavily interested in the married couple, while Carson is also under investigation.

Meanwhile, Violet knows the situation with Lady Edith's secret illegitimate child, Marigold, and that harrowing storyline will see some development after last week's intriguing phone call to London and some terrible news for Edith.

Charles Blake is still in the picture for the fickle Lady Mary, but his suggestion that former love rival Lord Gillingham's ex-fiancée Mabel Lane Fox could take him back did not go down well on Sunday.

Under-butler Thomas is still battling with medical experiments promising to 'cure' his homosexuality and finally reveals the truth to Baxter, while Lady Rose's new friendship with Atticus continues to develop as "love is in the air for more than one member of the Crawley family".

Episode six airs on ITV on Sunday 26 October at 9pm
