James Corden's Carpool Karaoke: 2016-17 highlights

James Corden's celeb-packed Carpool Karaoke has picked up an Emmy for the second year in a row.

His Carpool Karaoke Primetime Special 2017, the second such special Corden and his team have produced, picked up the Emmy for Oustanding Variety Special at the Creative Arts Emmys, a precursor to the main event on Sunday.

"We did it last year and we won last year as well," he told reporters backstage. "So us winning the Emmy last year was very much part of the thought process of, ‘Oh we should probably do that again.’ I wish I could tell you it was different. It was as shallow as that."

He also joked that he was so convinced he wouldn't win, he told his wife not to bother coming to the awards ceremony; a decision he's now regretting. Corden also picked up an award for his hosting duties at the Tony Awards in June of last year.

Meanwhile, the BBC's Planet Earth II nabbed two prizes - Outstanding Documentary or Non-Fiction Series and Outstanding Cinematography for a Non-Fiction Program - while Ava DuVernay's Netflix doc The 13th nabbed three.

HBO's Westworld swept up many of the technical achievements, including visual effects and sound mixing, only boosting its chances of walking away as the big winner of Sunday's ceremony.

You can check out our list of predictions here. The 2017 Emmys will take place on 17 September, on CBS at 8E/5P.
