Emilia Clarke 'really annoyed' by Game of Thrones nudity discussion

'People f*** for pleasure - it’s part of life'

Emilia Clarke has opened up about her frustrations with having to incessantly talk about the nudity featured in Game of Thrones.

The actor, who plays Daenerys Targaryen on the HBO series, is unclear as to why people still make a big deal over sex scenes featured in the show which finished its seventh season earlier this year.

In particular, Clarke feels it undermines the importance of sex in contemporary art including other TV shows like the Emmy-winning The Handmaid's Tale.

“I’m starting to get really annoyed about this stuff now because people say, ‘Oh, yeah, all the porn sites went down when Game of Thrones came back on.’ I’m like, The Handmaid’s Tale? I f**king love that show, and I cried when it ended because I couldn’t handle not seeing it,” Clarke told Harper’s Bazaar.

“That is all sex and nudity,“ she added. ”There are so many shows centred around this very true fact that people reproduce. People f*** for pleasure - it’s part of life.”

Clarke - who has a role in the forthcoming Star Wars spinoff Solo - also reflected on the film industry's obsession with casting actors who have the “right look.”

“It got me angry. Well, no, not angry. ‘Angry’ is the wrong word,” she said. “But it pushed me into another casting type; forced me to be an actor.

“Instead of playing Juliet and doing the light, airy stuff, I would be the granny who cracks wise, or a down-and-out hooker who has seen better days.”
