Nikolaj Coster-Waldau has spoken of his hopes for “anarchy” in the Game of Thrones finale.

The Danish actor, who plays knight Jaime ‘Kingslayer’ Lannister in the hit HBO series, said the cast should “burn the throne” in an episode to remember.

“I hope they just burn that f***ing thing,” he told TV Magazine. “Down with the King. Let’s have anarchy and a republic instead.”

The 43-year-old also addressed the controversial sex scenes in the show after season four has proved one of the most controversial yet.

“For some reason the sex always becomes a talking point, as if it’s the most horrific you could ever see,” he said.

“But at the same time we know lots of people watch pornography. So people who don’t admit watching that will say: ‘Did you see Game of Thrones? It’s disgusting.’”

The Game of Thrones season four finale aired in the US last night and will be shown on Sky Atlantic at 9pm this evening.

Showrujnners David Benioff and Dan Weiss have promised viewers the “finest hour” of the series so far.

“It’s the best finale we’ve ever done, bar none,” they said in a statement. “The performances from our cast, the direction from Alex Graves, the VFX work, the new cues from Ramin Djawadi – all of it came together in perhaps the finest hour we’ve produced.”

Benioff and Weiss added that they are so “immensely proud” of the finale that there are conerns no future episode will better it.

The pair have submitted closing episode “The Children” for Emmy Award consideration in the Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series and Outstanding Prosthetic Make-Up categories.

Fans therefore have just reason to expect one of the bloodiest shows yet.
