Game of Thrones star Finn Jones to play Iron Fist in Marvel's next Netflix series
He'll later join the likes of Charlie Cox and Krysten Ritter for team-up series 'The Defenders'
Marvel has found the final piece of the puzzle in lining up their television superhero team The Defenders, which already features Daredevil (Charlie Cox), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), and Luke Cage (Mike Colter).
YouTube channel The Hashtag Show first broke the news Finn Jones would be taking the role of Iron Fist; later confirmed by Entertainment Weekly.
Jones is best known for the role of Ser Loras Tyrell on HBO's Game of Thrones, though he'll now be taking centre stage in Marvel's upcoming Netflix solo series entitled Iron Fist, before he joins previously confirmed members for the Avengers-style team-up series, The Defenders.
Iron Fist is the alias of Daniel Rand, who travelled age 9 with his family to the lost, mystical city of K'un-L'un discovered by his father; though the tragic deaths of his parents see him adopted by the city's ruler and trained in the martial arts. After defeating a great dragon, Rand gains the power of its molten heart; emerging from its cave with all the powers of the Iron Fist.
Rand later returns to his birthplace, New York City, as an adult; utilising his powers to become one of the city's newest breed of superheroes.
The show, however, does arrive on the back of minor controversy in its casting process. Some fans hoped Marvel would utilise the opportunity to cast an Asian actor in the role, though others countered that the move would simply reinforce stereotypes due to the character's abilities in martial arts.
Jones will next be seen in Games of Thrones' sixth season; with Marvel debuting its second season of Daredevil on 18 March.
