Glee star Lea Michele has made an official statement following the autopsy of her boyfriend Cory Monteith, saying she is supporting his family through the loss.

Monteith, 31, was found dead in his hotel in Vancouver on Saturday. The post mortem examination yesterday revealed the actor died from a heroin overdose.

In a statement to People magazine, Michele’s spokesperson said: “Lea is deeply grateful for all the love and support she’s received from family, friends and fans. Since Cory’s passing, Lea has been grieving alongside his family and making appropriate arrangements with them.

“They are supporting each other as they endure this profound loss together. We continue to ask the media to respect the privacy of Lea and Cory’s family.”

The British Columbia Coroner’s Service confirmed the actor’s cause of death after conducting an autopsy and toxicological analysis. A statement said: “There is no evidence at this time to suggest Monteith’s death was anything other than a most tragic accident.”

The Canadian actor was believed to be alone when he died. The coroner’s office said the investigation into his death is continuing, and that no other details were available.

Michele, 26, who starred alongside Monteith in Glee, had been dating the actor for over a year.

She publicly supported him when he entered a rehabilitation centre in March for substance addiction, telling People: “I love and support Cory and will stand by him through this. I am grateful and proud he made this decision.”

Monteith, who played quarterback Finn Hudson in Glee, had previously talked about struggling with addiction since he was a teenager. Describing his struggles in an interview with US magazine Parade in 2011, he said he was “lucky to be alive”.
