Jerry Seinfeld and Jason Alexander have made a comeback, but not the sort of reunion that Seinfeld fans were hoping for (scroll to see the video).

The two characters appeared last night in an advert during the Super Bowl for a special edition of Seinfeld’s popular web series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.

The recent filming of the six minute “special” sparked rumours that the cast of Seinfeld may be reuniting for a new series after Seinfeld and Alexander were seen entering Tom’s Restaurant together, a popular backdrop used during the Nineties sitcom.

But instead the characters reunited for a teaser advert for Seinfeld's comedy series, which saw them console themselves that neither have been invited to a Super Bowl party.

Their conversation quickly turned to taunting, with Seinfeld telling Alexander that he hasn’t been invited to a party this year because he “overcheered” at a Super Bowl gathering last year.

At the end the two are visited by Wayne Knight, who played Newman in the popular hit sitcom.

Jerry Seinfeld remained elusive about the special episode, telling US radio station WFAN last week that he had a new “secret project” which included previous Seinfeld cast members.

“It’s neither a Super Bowl commercial which is one rumour, and it is not an episode of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. But it is not not those things either. It’s a secret project,” he said.
