The full trailer for Season 4 of Lena Dunham’s Girls, has been released.

The short clip picks up where the end of Season 3, a cliffhanger, leaves off - with Hannah Horvath making her way to Iowa to take up her place on the most prestigious creative writing course in the US.

Back in New York, romantic life continues to be complex for Marnie (Allison Williams), Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet) graduates from New York University and Jessa (Jemima Kirke) gets arrested.

Fans of the series will, however, have to wait until 11 January 2015 for the new season to be shown on TV.

The release of the trailer comes during a difficult week for Girls creator Lena Dunham, after a right-wing publication accused her of describing sexually assaulting her younger sister in her memoir, Not That Kind of Girl.

“If the situations described in my book have been painful or triggering for people to read, I am sorry, as that was never my intention,” she continued.

“I am also aware that the comic use of the term ‘sexual predator’ was insensitive, and I’m sorry for that as well.”

She has since cancelled the European leg of her book tour, citing illness.
