'Liquid gold' Britain's Got Talent singer turned down by The Voice
Monday 22 April 2013
Hopeful singer Alice Fredenham looked a world away from the shy hopeful with stage fright who featured on last week's Britain's Got Talent when she appeared on The Voice on Saturday night.
She appeared on the rival BBC1 show, just a week after viewers saw her being told by Simon Cowell she had a voice like "liquid gold" on BGT.
And in contrast to her dressed-down, nervous slot on the ITV programme, she was seen talking about how she plays pub gigs and how her "confidence has grown".
The 28-year-old beauty therapist performed "The Lady Is A Tramp" but failed to get a single judge interested in her vocal talent.
It was a sharp contrast to her low-key BGT appearance - recorded after The Voice - when she told of her battle with nerves and, wiping away tears, said: "Stage fright is something I've battled with. I'm just trying to take each time as it comes."
In Saturday's show, Fredenham said: "My confidence has grown loads in the last few years I think that just comes with age as well.
"I've done a few gigs in a few pubs around London and I've sung at a few weddings in my time, but singing to the audience today will be the biggest audience I've ever sung to."
But her performance was not enough to win over the coaches.
Jessie J told her: "There's a huge difference in singing for singing, and singing to make people listen. It kind of just felt like I was in a jazz bar or in a restaurant, and someone was playing and you were singing."
Although she did not impress coach Danny O'Donoghue with her voice, he was an admirer of her looks. He told her: "Stylistically for me I just felt it was a bit safe, that was the only reason I didn't turn around. By the way you're a gorgeous looking girl."
