Black Mirror is to get a high profile lead for its feature-length Christmas special, with "massive fan of the show" Jon Hamm signing up.

The 90-minute episode will be broadcast on Channel 4 and features "three interwoven stories of Yuletide techno-phobia".

Hamm will be joined on the cast by Oona Chaplin (Game of Thrones) and Rafe Spall (One Day).

"I am beyond thrilled to be a part of the Black Mirror Christmas Special," the Mad Men actor said in a statement. "I have been a massive fan of the show since its inception.

"Its dark humour and intelligent observation of our society and values hooked me deeply as a viewer and I'm honoured that Charlie and the rest of the creative team have asked me to participate in wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas."

He is not the first Hollywood actor to take an interest in the series, with Robert Downey Jr having previously bought up the film rights to the episode The Entire History Of You.

"I'm revoltingly happy that Jon, Rafe and Oona are participating in the horrible pageant that is Black Mirror," said creator Charlie Brooker.

"As far as I'm concerned their presence is a huge Christmas present that's arrived early."

A title and release date for the Christmas special has yet to be announced.
