Master of None season 3 still on the table, Aziz Ansari is 'doing good', says Lena Waithe

Aziz Ansari has remained silent across social media since Babe.net published a damaging account in January of his alleged behaviour on a date, leading to concern as to whether there will be a future for his hugely popular Netflix show, Master of None.

"Have you spoken to Aziz? Is he doing okay?" The Independent asked his Emmy-winning MoN co-star Lena Waithe, who replied: "He's doing good, yeah, he's in good spirits."

As to whether she knows what's happening with the show, Waithe said: "I don't. I mean, I talk to Aziz and Alan [Yang, co-creator] but it's the last thing that ever comes up in our conversations."

It does not, however, sound as though Netflix now considers him toxic as it did with Kevin Spacey, removing him from House of Cards, and as other studios and networks have with other men implicated during the #MeToo movement, HBO removing all content involving Louis CK.

"It's their show, it's up to them, truly," Waithe continued, "which is what's kind of cool about Netflix, unless they really hate a show they're always like, 'Yeah feel free to come back and do more,' so I think the ball's in their court, I just haven't asked the question."

Master of None is unlikely to be at the top of Ansari's priorities right now as he considers his future in the entertainment industry, and if the show does return for a third season it may not be for some time.

It is also hard to imagine the show not being very different, as any and all date scenarios it depicts will now be placed in a different context.

Earlier this week, Ansari's Parks and Recreation co-star Adam Scott echoed Waithe's assessment, telling Vulture: ‘I don’t know what to say on the record about Aziz. I don’t want to say anything that could be misconstrued. I’ll say this: Aziz is doing great. He’s a great, lovely guy. How’s that?"
