Singer Sophie Ellis-Bextor is confirmed to appear on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.

Ellis-Bextor, who is known for songs such as 'Murder on the Dancefloor' and 'Catch You', will compete for the glitterball trophy against Abbey Clancy and Dave Myers, one half of the culinary duo The Hairy Bikers.

The singer is alleged to have signed for the BBC One dancing contest after being offered a £25,000 contract.

Ellis-Bextor, 34, is currently recording her fifth studio album, titled Wanderlust.

She will be joined on the show by model Abbey Clancy, who was reportedly offered a £35,000 contract to appear on the show and the use of a £3 million house in London while filming takes place.

Great British Bake Off judge Paul Hollywood was rumoured to join the other celebrities in the competition, but has been forced to pull out due to scheduling conflicts with other commitments.

Olympic swimmer Rebecca Adlington and tennis player Tim Henman have also denied their involvement in the series, following reports that they would be appearing alongside Peter Andre and Teri Hatcher.
