Sherlock, Doctor Who, Cilla and Gogglebox are among the hit shows vying for gongs at this year’s National Television Awards.

Benedict Cumberbatch, Sheridan Smith, Sarah Lancashire and Dame Maggie Smith will compete for the Drama Performance prize.

Peter Capaldi has been shunned from the nominations list for his lead role in Doctor Who, however, despite previous Time Lords Matt Smith, David Tennant and Christopher Eccleston all taking home the award.

In other categories, X Factor panellists Simon Cowell and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini go head to head as best talent judge, with Britain's Got Talent's David Walliams and Great British Bake Off star Mary Berry completing the list.

Bake Off is up for another prize, competing for the skills challenge award against The Apprentice, Masterchef and Come Dine With Me.

Viewers can vote for their favourite TV shows and stars on the National TV Awards website here or by phone on 0901 888 2015.

Voting closes at 12pm on Wednesday 21 January before the ceremony at London’s O2 Arena that night.
