Netflix has won the rights to stream a spin-off series of the hit US TV drama Breaking Bad.

Better Call Saul, which will charter the antics of the original programme’s corrupt lawyer, will be aired in the UK after its broadcast in the US.

Bob Odenkirk will take centre stage in the spin-off as Saul Goodman, who aided former chemistry teacher Walter White, played by Bryan Cranston, to build a drug empire in Breaking Bad.

Netflix UK is yet to confirm the exact date when Better Call Saul will be available for streaming.

Ted Sarandos, Netflix chief content officer, said: “ Breaking Bad is widely recognized as one of the great TV experiences in this new golden age of television. It has also proven very popular with Netflix subscribers around the world.

"This spin-off promises to continue its tradition of powerful storytelling. We are proud to be in business with Sony Pictures Television to bring Saul Goodman to our subscribers around the world."

Details about Better Call Saul’s plot remain unclear, but creator Vince Gilligan recently hinted at original stars Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul making an appearance.

“I'd have a hard time resisting putting all these guys in for a cameo or two every now and then,” he told The Hollywood Reporter in October.

Steve Mosko, president of Sony Pictures Television, said: "Coming off of the overwhelming success of  Breaking Bad, we're excited to continue our collaboration with Vince, as well as Peter Gould, and that fans around the world will be able to embrace 'Saul'."
