Harry Potter star Rupert Grint has landed the lead role in a US TV pilot.

The 24-year-old is being lined up to play the title character in superhero comedy Super Clyde.

The actor, who played Harry's friend Ron Weasley in the boy wizard films, has been cast as Clyde, a shy and neurotic fast food worker who decides to become a superhero, The Hollywood Reporter said.

When Clyde inherits a 100,000 dollars (£65,000) a month inheritance from his uncle, he "decides that the cash will be his secret super power and (he) will use it only for good and reward the good-hearted", it says.

If the CBS pilot is successful, it will mark Grint's first regular, small-screen series role.

Mike Fresco, a director on US TV show My Name Is Earl, is making the pilot.

Grint will next be seen opposite Shia LaBeouf in the film The Necessary Death Of Charlie Countryman.
