Stephen Fry is to appear in a US pilot for CBS comedy Super Clyde alongside Harry Potter actor Rupert Grint.

The comedy centres on Clyde, played by Rupert Grint, a meek, unassuming fast food worker who decides to become a super hero after inheriting $100,000 a month from his late eccentric uncle. Fry has signed to play Super Clyde’s sidekick, Randolph the butler, according to Deadline Hollywood.

If the pilot gets commissioned it will be Fry’s first debut as a co-star in a US series. He currently has a guest role on Fox’s drama Bones, and is known in American for his appearance in V for Vendetta, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and Alice in Wonderland, but is not a well-known name like he is in the UK.

Fry could be due to follow in the footsteps of his good friend Hugh Laurie, who has had success in the US after fronting hit TV series House.

Super Clyde is created by Gregory Thomas (My Name is Earl), and stars Tyler Labine (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) as Clyde’s brother. The pilot for Super Clyde is in pre-production and the broadcast date is yet to be confirmed.
