Gregg Wallace is set to take his turn beneath the Strictly Come Dancing glitter ball when the celebrity latin and ballroom contest returns next month.

The MasterChef judge was among the last three contestants to be revealed live on BBC’s The One Show this evening.

He joined Mrs Brown’s Boys actress Jennifer Gibney and Bargain Hunt presenter Tim Wonnacott in the studio to confirm the news to presenters Chris Evans and Gabby Logan.

Former greengrocer Gregg, 49, is best known for his presenting roles, also including Celebrity MasterChef and MasterChef: The Professionals.

He said: “I absolutely love the show and I love dancing! I cannot wait to get engrossed and live in a Strictly bubble!”

Jenny, who plays Cathy Brown in the hit comedy, said: “As a child I wrote to Blue Peter asking could I dance with Pan's People. Now at last I get a chance to earn my badge - excited doesn't cover it!!“

And Tim, who at 61 is the oldest contestant, said: “I’m delighted to be joining Strictly Come Dancing. My wife and I are big fans of the show and this year we’ll be celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary. She loves dancing but it’s never really been my specialty. I would love to pick up even just a few moves so that come our anniversary, I can take her out and show her a good time!”

The trio will join a host of other famous faces on the popular show, including Frankie Bridge from The Saturdays, tennis player Andy Murray’s mum Judy, Blue singer Simon Webbe, TOWIE star Mark Wright, pop star Pixie Lott and former rugby international Thom Evans.

This year’s Strictly sees Claudia Winkleman replace Sir Bruce Forsyth as a co-host alongside Tess Daly. Winkleman previously presented the Sunday night results show.

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One at 8pm on Sunday 7 September.
