She is better known for looking tense on the tennis court sidelines, but Judy Murray’s Strictly Come Dancing partner has promised she will be “lots of fun” on the show.

Professional dancer Anton Du Beke, who has been partnered with Judy this year, said he hoped her lively personality would shine through when she takes to the dance floor again later this month.

“She’s got a great, fun personality and that’s what I hope comes out at the beginning because that’s what I think is so endearing about her. She’s got a wonderful sense of humour,” he said at last night’s TV Choice Awards.

Du Beke added he was confident the tennis coach would “surprise her son” Andy Murray, “especially when she adds in the high kicks and back flip, straight into box split”.

The dancer said he was most excited to work with Judy because of her long-standing enthusiasm for the show, adding that he was not afraid of her despite her sometimes steely demeanour on television.

“She’s got a lovely posture and a lovely determination, and the biggest thing is she loves the show. She’s a massive fan of the show – so that enthusiasm for doing it is great and is going to come through in her performances.

"Anyone who loves the show is a friend of mine,” he said

Asked if he thought Judy would be able to take criticism from the judges, he said confidently: “There will be no criticism, only ever love”.
