Strictly Come Dancing has had its fair share of interesting contestants over the years, but the BBC reality series could be about to see its most intriguing yet in the shape of Happy Mondays stars Bez.

The 'hype man,' whose real name is Mark Berry, rose to prominence as the backing dancer for the Shaun Ryder-fronted band. He has reportedly stated he would love to participate in one of the UK's most watched television shows.

Speaking to The Mirror, he said: "I reckon I could go all the way…dancing has made me famous, and entertaining people is what I do best. I’ve lost count of the number of blokes who’ve come up to me over the years and said 'Thanks for making it okay for indie guys to get on the dance floor.'"

Bez is also part of Black Grape, another band founded by Ryder. Despite being a dancer, the moves he's most known for wouldn't lead you to think him the most likely Strictly Come Dancing contestant.

He does, however, have previous reality television experience having appeared on Celebrity Big Brother back in 2005; he won the show.

Commenting on the victory, Bez stated: “I’m a man of the people, a man for all people. People saw the real me, a decent bloke."

The percussionist, author, and part-time protestor said: “I always deliver on my promises, and I can promise that doing Strictly would be as much of an entertaining laugh for the viewers at it would be for me. Bring it on, I’m well up for it."

We hope the BBC are reading.

Strictly Come Dancing will return for a 14th series this Autumn. The Wanted vocalist Jay McGuiness won series 13 back in December.
