Jake Wood has been booted from the Strictly Come Dancing ballroom in the semi-final.

The EastEnders star was the eleventh celebrity to leave the BBC competition with his professional partner Janette Manrara, after losing to Mark Wright in the dance-off.

Caroline Flack, Frankie Bridge and Simon Webbe went straight through to next week’s grand final, where they will compete with Mark for the coveted glitter ball trophy.

The five semi-finalists danced twice each this weekend, performing one ballroom and one latin routine.

Jake and Janette performed their cha cha cha to “Boogie Shoes” by KC and the Sunshine Band in the dance-off while Mark and his dance partner Karen Hauer opted for their rumba to “Fields of Gold” by Eva Cassidy.

The judges were divided in their decisions, with Darcey Bussell and Bruno Tonioli both choosing to save Jake.

Craig Revel-Horwood saved Mark, leaving head judge Len Goodman with the deciding vote.

“This if every difficult,” he said. “The cha cha cha had little cha cha cha content and the rumba had little rumba content so in that respect it’s a very level playing field.

“One was totally performance driven, the other was more about artistry and this is for me the toughest of all but I’m going to save Mark and Karen.”

Jake described going home in the semi-final as a “huge disappointment” but praised Janette for “working wonders” on his dancing skills.

“I don’t have enough words to say how proud I am of him,” Janette added. “He’s been an absolute pleasure to work with - so driven, so focussed.”

Paloma Faith gave a special performance during the show, which returns next week for the two-part final.

Tune in at 6.30pm next Saturday to see the four finalists perform two dances - their own favourite from the series and a second chosen by the judges.

Later that night at 8.50pm, the results will be delivered live. One couple will be eliminated at the start of the show, before the remaining three couples perform their show dance in a final bid for victory.

Expect a medley performance from Take That too.
