Remember a time when barely anybody watched Breaking Bad? It's hard to recall but AMC's beloved series only became a phenomenon about three seasons in aided somewhat by its addition to UK Netflix.

One such show that deserves a similar fate is FX series The Americans, an Eighties-set drama following two Soviet KGB officers (Keri Russell and Matthew Rhys) posing as an American married couple in the suburbs of Washington, D.C.

Like Vince Gilligan's series, the show features antihero protagonists and a Hank-type character who has no idea the people they're hunting are close by (Noah Emmerich's FBI agent and next door neighbour, Stan Beaman).

With its fourth season having just wrapped, it's been confirmed that the series - created by former CIA officer Joe Weisberg - has been given two more to wrap things up.

Season five will be comprised of 13 episodes while the final instalment is due to run for ten; this will bring the series' overall episode tally to 75 (that's more than Breaking Bad).

Despite being adored by critics since its pilot aired in 2013, The Americans has never managed to acquire the viewing figures. Its two-season renewal is quite groundbreaking considering the brutal nature of television today.

Over the course of its four seasons to date, the Cold War drama has co-starred Maximiliano Hernández, Alison Wright, and Margo Martindale.

If you're looking to start a new series that is guaranteed a natural conclusion, now could be the time to push The Americans further up your list. Perhaps you can get ahead of the game before it catches fire between now and 2018.

The first two seasons are available to view on Amazon Prime.
