The kings – and undisputed queen – of British comedy are...

Miranda Hart is set to consolidate her position as one of the biggest comedy stars in Britain after scooping four nominations at the British Comedy Awards.

Hart has been nominated for Best TV Comedy Actress, for Miranda, which pulled in more than 4 million viewers for the final episode of its second series earlier this year, as well as Best Sitcom for the show, an award she lost out on in 2010. She is also nominated for Best Female Television Comic and will defend her People's Choice Award for the King or Queen of Comedy, it was announced last night.

Another four-time nominee is Channel 4's Friday Night Dinner, starring Simon Bird and Tamsin Greig. Greig and her co-star Tom Rosenthal are up for Best TV Comedy Actress and Best Comedy Breakthrough Artist, respectively. The show is also up for Best Sitcom and Best New Comedy Programme.

Another two new shows celebrating nominations are Twenty Twelve, the BBC comedy set around the build-up to the Olympic Games, whose star Hugh Bonneville is in the running for Best TV Comedy Actor, and Fresh Meat, set on a university campus. Both shows are up for Best New Comedy Programme, while Twenty Twelve is one of the nominees for Best Sitcom and Fresh Meat is up for Best Comedy Drama alongside Comic Strip Presents: The Hunt For Tony Blair, which starred Stephen Mangan.

Ronnie Corbett and Victoria Wood have nominations, Corbett for Best Sketch Show for The One Ronnie and Wood for Best Female Television Comic for Victoria Wood's Angina Monologues.

One performer looking forward to the awards show, which will be hosted by Jonathan Ross and screened live on Channel 4 this Friday at 9pm, is Jo Brand, nominated for Best Female Television Comic and the People's Choice award. She said: "It's always great to win awards. I like the heavy ones which are great for lobbing at burglars or holding doors open with."
