Liv Tyler has officially confirmed she will appear in The Leftovers’ third and final season.

The actress starred as a series regular in the first season and returned for a small, but pivotal role in the HBO series’ sophomore outing.

Despite no confirmation, it seems that the show will also see the return of both Justin Theroux and Carrie Coon as the long-suffering Kevin Garvey and Nora Durst.

Tyler, who plays Meg Abbott, revealed the news to Digital Spy.

The Leftovers was brought to television by Lost co-creator Damon Lindelof, adapted from Tom Perotta’s novel of the same name. The first season debuted to mixed acclaim back in 2014, but season two saw unanimous praise from critics and audiences alike; many cited it as one of the best TV shows of last year.

The series focuses on the aftermath of a fictional event which sees 2% of the world’s population disappear.

Initially set in Mapleton, New York, Lindelof rejigged the formula for season two, relocating the characters to Jarden - a Texan town renamed 'Miracle' due to being the only town unaffected by the event.

Tyler stated she still knows nothing about the upcoming series which Lindelof previously announced will be the last.

”Damon is secretive,” she said. “He surprises us as much as the audience.”

Theroux is currently batting off the bad reviews heaped upon comedy sequel Zoolander 2, which he co-wrote and starred in alongside Ben Stiller.

Filming for The Leftovers season three begins later this year.
