At just 16, Lauren Platt is the youngest of the group but has impressed throughout after receiving a standing ovation during her arena audition.

She joins Chloe Jasmine, 24, in Cheryl’s group of girls, who has hit out at people for criticising her posh accent after undergoing speech therapy for her lisp.

Andrea Faustini, who was chosen by Mel B as one of her three boys, is the only non-Brit to make the final. The 20-year-old Italian has been a firm favourite with the judges and audience since his first audition.

Paul Akister, 25, is a returning X-Factor contestant who joins Faustini in Mel B’s group. He made it through to the judges houses last year but Louis did not pick him for the live finals. He has now lost three stone and hopes to be ‘HD ready’ for the live shows.

An unnamed new boy band, created by the judges, have been chosen by Louis for the live finals. The eight boys aged 14-20 will be hoping they can follow in X Factor-manufactured band One Direction’s footsteps.

Jay James, who taught himself the guitar after injuring himself while playing rugby for the armed forces, has been chosen by Simon Cowell in his over 25s category.

After he received a standing ovation for his first audition, Simon said he would be a “great winner for the sho and the one to beat”.

The X Factor live shows continue Saturday 11 October on ITV.
