Trevor Noah says Donald Trump is Game of Thrones character Jon Snow and his voters are the Wildlings

'He realised that the Wildlings are registered voters, too'

Throughout the election, numerous political pundits compared the presidential to various characters in Game of Thrones, the HBO show famous for featuring terrifying villains and killing off heroes with no remorse.

For many Donald Trump was more comparable to the deplorable Ramsay Bolton than, say, Ned Stark, but that’s not a comparison Trevor Noah has drawn.

Instead, the late night host rightly points out how many American’s working in manufacturing have lost their jobs, not only to other countries but to technology.

“Unless Trump’s plan to help Kodak is to force Apple to put film cameras on the back of their phones, you can’t bring those jobs back,” he says.

Noah then discusses middle-America being unheard, especially those who live in rural areas: “How do you riot effectively in a place where nobody lives. What do you do, tip over a bale of hey? Plow the wrong field?”

He concludes: “If this is Game of Thrones, Donald Trump is basically Jon Snow. He realised that the Wildlings are registered voters, too. Now, their support has brought him to power.”

Another point Noah makes is how the polls failed to hear rural, middle Americans. Instead, the world was misled into believing Hilary Clinton would be the first female President of the United States, echoing how this year’s Brexit polls predicted the UK would remain in the EU until the final results were announced.

One person who would likely be dismayed at the Jon Snow comparison would be Game of Thrones author George RR Martin who said of Trump's victory: "I really thought we were better than this. Guess not."

Other US late night hosts to have commented on the election result, including Stephen Colbert who questioned how Clinton could accept Trump’s presidency so readily.
