Trevor Noah on Comey firing: 'If he’s gone, who is going to investigate Russia’s ties to – oh!'

Following Donald Trump’s dismissal of FBI Director James Comey, American late night hosts had a field day, Jimmy Kimmel likening the President to past dictators.

Comedy Central’s Trevor Noah was also quick to address the breaking news. “You can’t just fire the FBI director,” The Daily Show host said. “If he’s gone, who’s going to investigate Russia’s ties to — oooooh.”

“I know we said Trump was an African dictator. But, right now, even Africans are watching this going ‘wow, Donald Trump does not f**k around.’”

Noah described the event as “blockbuster”, reading Trump’s dismissal statement; a message that cites Hilary Clinton’s email scandal as reasoning for firing Comey.

“This is insane,” Noah said. “That’s the most gangster excuse. Trump is basically saying, ‘I’m doing this to clear my good friend Crooked Hillary, because James Comey, folks, clearly just wanted to lock her up, lock her up, lock her up, folks!’”

The host then discussed Sally Yates, and her role exposing Michael Flynn’s ties to Russia, along with Barack Obama’s warning about Flynn weeks before.

“Trump doesn’t care about national security,” Noah said. “But he hates PR problems… Congratulations Sally Yates, you got Trump shook in his one safe space.”

Noah has previously been outspoken on various Trump administrative issues, including calling Ivanka Trump a ‘liar’ after taking an advisor role and comparing Trump’s America to the apartheid.
