Chloe-Jasmine Whichello might be on course for X Factor success, but whether Simon Cowell's reality TV contest was worth passing up a Game of Thrones part for remains to be seen.

The 23-year-old former model was one of Cheryl Fernandez-Versini's hotly-debated picks in the Girls category on Sunday night's Judges Houses episode.

But her career could have got off to a very different start had she taken up an offer from HBO's hit fantasy TV series.

Whichello turned down a "very small role" on Game of Thrones, according to The X Factor's press team, who have reportedly confirmed that the shows' filming schedules would have clashed.

The fifth season of Thrones is shooting at the moment before airing in spring next year.

Whichello, meanwhile, has brought controversy to The X Factor with many viewers insisting that her inclusion is a fix.

She was allowed another chance after fluffing her second arena audition but her initial failure was not broadcast.

Then there was her first ever audition back in 2006 (the one with the sparkly pink cowboy hat), in which Cowell branded her "every parent's worst nightmare" and rejected her for being "too over the top".

"If everybody in the world was to know who I was – 'ooh she's won The X Factor, look what she's done – that would be really fun," she said at the time.

Now, she is being praised for her elegant old-fashioned style and unique bluesy singing voice, and describes herself on her Facebook page as "fabulously British, irrepressible, constantly learning and thriving on the beauty of creation".

The X Factor's live shows begin this coming Saturday 11 October at 7.30pm on ITV.
