Another programme that could have benefited from Sean Bean’s dulcet tones was ITV’s Animal Mums, a three-parter that concluded on 5 September.

A sweet little series about (yup, you guessed it) animal mums, the narration was appalling – twee and childlike. But in our house, it was also completely drowned out by all the “oohs” and “aahs” and repeated squeals of “look at the baby!”

Footage of surrogate otter mums letting orphans ride on their tummies and possums trying to hunt with an entire litter of joeys on their back were joyful. And it was incredible to learn that horses are able to run and buck within 12 hours of being born – putting us humans to shame. Which reminds me, I’ll be having a word with my nephew when  I next see him. Never mind 12 hours, that kid’s more than 12 months now and he can neither run nor buck...
