On Lady Chatterley (Sunday, BBC 1):

'The novel used to come into teenage hands thumb-indexed to the supposed sexy bits, which turned out to be lyrically disappointing, and watching (this was) much the same. Whatever you can expect later, this one is all come-on and no come.' Hugh Hebert, Guardian.

'The difficulties of transferring the novel to the small screen are practically insuperable.' Max Davidson, Daily Telegraph.

'The considerable achievement of the first instalment of Lady Chatterley was that it wasn't particularly sexy; the viewer in search of prurient pleasures was better advised to watch the Alan Clark profile on BBC 2.' Lynne Truss, Times.
