Upbeat: Striking win

NOW you know: the percussionist Evelyn Glennie is the Independent readers' choice as Personality of the Year. At last night's presentation of the International Classical Music Awards, in Symphony Hall, Birmingham, she gave a performance and accepted her prize, intended to honour a musician who has made things happen. There you certainly got it right (along with the BBC Music Magazine readers who also voted). You can see the presentation tomorrow at 8.30pm on BBC2, plus the other awards - expect appearances by Placido Domingo, Andras Schiff and John Corigliano among others.
