Arcade Fire's new song, the title track from the October-released fourth LP Reflektor, is a suitably big affair; it prompted Pitchfork to quip that it's so epic, it has two videos – one a monochrome effort directed by Anton Corbijn (youtu.be/7E0fVfectDo), the other an interactive extravaganza (justareflektor.com). The song itself is a bouncy number, with dance-like textures that may in part be a result of James Murphy being in the production booth. David Bowie is on backing vocals, which is nice.

US electronic artist/singer Glasser released one of the standout debuts of 2010 with her song-cycle LP Ring. The singer, real name Cameron Mesirow (pictured), returns shortly with the follow-up record, Interiors released on 7 October. The album's opening track has been shared at youtu.be/jJhAuEYk3ms; “Shape” finds Glasser in restrained form, with her vocals and brand of electro-pop pared back and downbeat. Elsewhere Mesirow has been offering up 15-second snippets of other tracks from Interiors using the video function of Instagram. The brief excerpts have appeared on her own account – instagram.com/glasser_ – and through those of other sites including The Fader, Nowness and NME.

Body/Head, Kim Gordon's collaboration with guitarist Bill Nace, has been slowly gestating since the dissolution/hiatus of her famed band Sonic Youth in 2011. They've played numerous tours and shows around the world and soon we'll have a recorded version of their experimental, improvisational work in the form of the album Coming Apart, released on 16 September.

Drake (pictured) continues to tease ahead of the release of his new album – his third – Nothing Was The Same, out on 16 September; yet another major hip hop record in year of big-name rap releases. Recently the Canadian hip hop/R&B star put out the second single from the track from his new effort, available already on iTunes and other usual digital outlets – as well as streaming on Soundcloud at snd.sc/13i6Noh. With production duties from Majid Jordan (reportedly a somewhat mysterious Canadian duo), “Hold On, We're Going Home”, veers more towards the R&B side rather than the rap side, with Drake singing quietly over layers of downbeat and downtempo house-like soundcapes. A seductive number that bears repeating.

UK trio London Grammar release their debut album, If You Wait, on 9 September. Ahead of that they release the “Stronger” single EP on the first of the month. Theirs is a minimalist, downbeat electro-meets-organic instrumentation sound à la The xx with singer Hannah Reid's vocals reminiscent of Florence Welch. The B-side from the EP, “Feelings”, highlights their finely controlled abilities and is streaming at snd.sc/185vx6y. It veers dangerously close to oh-so tasteful wine-bar-based background music but it's an affecting effort nonetheless. Meanwhile, in a similar moody electro vein is the new song from LA singer Banks. “Waiting Game” produced by Sohn, finds Banks purring her vocals over heavy, bassy, dubstep-infused beats and synth waves. Hear it at snd.sc/15HJnM9.
